Sweaty Hands
Millions of Americans struggle with a life changing condition called palmar hyperhydrosis, more commonly known as sweaty hands. It can be an embarrassing condition which can often lead to social phobia and facial blushing. People who suffer from sweaty hands often find it difficult to do simple tasks such as writing, touching papers, playing certain sports, and opening bottles. Many people also avoid certain situations in which they need to shake hands such as job interviews.
What Causes Sweaty Hands?
Sweaty hands can be a difficult and sometimes life changing condition which millions of Americans deal with everyday. It is now estimated that at least 3 out of every 100 Americans deal with hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) on a daily basis. Because of the new research concluding that more Americans than previously thought have hyperhydriosis, more cures are being researched and found. Before, doctors believed that sweaty hands was a result of nervousness; however, they now know that sweaty hands are genetic, and although nervousness can increase the sweat, it does not cause it.
Types of Hyperhidrosis
Axilliary Hyperhidrosis:
Excessive sweating in the armpits (axilliary hyperhidrosis) is the most common form of hyperhidrosis. Although a large amount of people think they sweat too much in their armpits, only a small percentage sweat so much to the extent that they can call it axilliary hyperhidrosis. Most deoderants which include those labeled "presciption strength" aren't usually strong enough for a person with axilliary hyperhidrosis. In most cases, sweating in the armpits starts around the teenage years. It can often be an embarrasing condition which causes people to do things such as wear baggy clothes and avoid certain colors to In extreme cases, some people who suffer from axilliary hyperhydrosis must constantly change their shirt throughout the day.
Palmar Hyperhidrosis
Excessive Sweating in the hands (palmar hyperhidrosis) is not as common as axiallary hyperhidrosis; however, more than previously reported have sweaty hands. More attention has been given to palmar hyperhidrosis, and as a result new medications and procedures are arising to cure it. Palmar hyperhidrosis can severly affect a persons life. Doing simple tasks can seem so much more difficult with sweaty hands. Social phobias can also result because of it. Often times, people with palmar hyperhidrosis avoid situations such as shaking hands at a job interview.
Plantar Hyperhdriosis
Excessive sweating in the feet (plantar hyperhidrosis) is usually present when one struggles with sweaty hands. It is one of the more uncommon forms of hyperhidrosis. However is can be just as embarrasing and life changing as palmar or axilliary hyperhidrosis. People with sweaty feet often have trouble wearing sandles and for women it is nearly impossible to wear heels. Plantar hyperhidrosis also can cause blisters and athletes foot. Furthermore, if one has plantar warts it can cause them to spread and make nearly impossible to get rid of them.
